Once you have gone through all the effort of helping a loved into rehab your job isn’t over. Now you need to help keep them there until the programme is fully completed.

Unfortunately, drug withdrawal and adjusting to a sober life isn’t easy. Remember there is a whole range of mental cravings as well as physical ones which can be just as hard to overcome.

Reasons for not completing

You are likely to receive phone calls with complaints, criticism and accusations against the centre and the staff. Most of the time this is just an effort to try and achieve an escape from the drug-free environment and a ticket back to the old lifestyle.

Of course occasionally these complaints are true, and the chosen rehab is in fact not a good one or there are some bad staff.

Importance of Completing Rehab

For this reason, it is vital that you fully do your research before choosing a rehab centre and find some staff there that you are truly confident and are happy confiding in.

This is an important step, because otherwise you may fall into believing the tricks the person is using to get out, and let them leave without achieving sobriety and all your efforts to get them in will have gone to waste.

So once you know you have a good centre, if you do receive these phone calls it is vital to just stay strong and keep reassuring your loved one. You can also talk to the staff you feel confident in, to put your mind at rest or do anything you can to help make the persons time in rehab as easy as can be.

Something you can do is keep your loved one’s mind focused on what good things can be around the corner, once they are out and sober. Have ideas of activities and goals that would be enjoyable, this contains some ideas. That way there can be a light at the end of the tunnel and something to help them push through the darker moments.
