Marijuana Causing Carnage?

Recently a colleague of mine was watching a show on CNN and came across an interview with a forensic pathologist, currently working in Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, and formerly working in a coroner’s office in Denver. This is something that he said:

Well, I can tell you that it is relatively common to find THC, marijuana in the blood after individuals either shoot or hang themselves, get in front of guns or are shot during homicides. We’re also finding it relatively common in children. We do toxicology on kids under the age of five, and we do hair toxicology to see what type of ambient environment in which the kids live. It is common to see dead children with THC in their hair, so my impression is that there is just appalling human carnage associated with this psychotropic drug.

I thought this was a powerful statement to make. For someone who worked for years in close proximity to disease, death and drugs it is a big correlating factor to take out of it.

For all those that continue to believe that marijuana is a mild drug, that it doesn’t cause lasting damage or harm to the user or those around them, this should be food for thought. This type of finding is fairly powerful, and though it is not the result of a particular study, it is the type of real world data that you cannot just dismiss.
