Alcohol… Greeting 2018 with a Hangover?
The Christmas parties are over. The New Years Eve gatherings are rapidly becoming a distant memory. Many hangovers have been had and are now fading. Massive amounts of alcohol have now been consumed throughout the UK, Europe, and the world in the last week.
So… what’s the big deal? Well for many its fine… and for many it’s not. The bottom line is that alcohol is a drug, and I have seen firsthand the havoc it can wreak on an individual and their families when used in excess. For some, it’s the springboard to cocaine usage or other harder drugs they use only in tandem with alcohol.
Additionally, not all alcoholic beverages are the same. I’ve broken down the actual alcohol content from many of the common alcoholic beverages on the market. This may be of use or at least give a better perspective of the playing field.
Many fermented drinks, such as beer and wine, contain from 2 percent to 20 percent alcohol.
Distilled drinks, however, or liquor, contain from 40 percent to 50 percent alcohol—or more. The usual alcohol content for each is as follows:
- Beer 2–6%
- Cider 4–8 %
- Wine 8–20%
- Tequila 40%
- Rum 40% or more
- Brandy 40% or more
- Gin 40–47%
- Whiskey 40–50%
- Vodka 40–50%
- Liqueurs 15–60%
