How Long Does Drug Rehab Take?

People

Well, it is understandable that many people looking into rehab want to know the answer to that question. Unfortunately, there is no cut and dry answer.

Factors

Each person is different, what drugs and alcohol have been in their system and for how long? What individual effects has the addiction had on the person, both physically and mentally?

These are all factors, but on top of this, everyone’s journey is different.

Five States

The most important thing about a rehab programme is not how long it is going to take but if it will truly achieve everything you need from a rehab:

1.  Fully withdrawn off of drugs.

2. Physically detoxified.

3. Mental and physical cravings gone, or highly reduced and under control.

4. Life skills learned to enable the person to live without turning back to drugs. the person without turning back to drugs.

5.  All adding up to the final product of someone able to live a sober life for ever more.

Achieving these five states is vital. A short rehab may only focus on one or some of these factors, but unless they are all achieved, unfortunately, a return to drugs is quite likely at some point in the future.

The Reason

The reason that the length of time varies is just because how long it takes someone to achieve one of these states varies. Everyone’s full rehabilitation journey will be a little different. Maybe for some withdrawal is the hardest part, whereas for someone else getting the cravings under control is difficult and for someone else, there are life situations that are hard to face, learning how to overcome them may be the biggest challenge.

So for that reason, my answer is it takes what it takes!

BUT if you do want some sort of time frame I can say that here at Narconon the average time is about 3 months.
